Product Finishes

Remember, builder always has a margin (~30%) on top of anything sub-contractors will put in as extra.

We only did the downlights in the kitchen & living area, as it would have been a nightmare to do these afterwards. Anywhere an electrician could have access, we left as just baton. Masterton charges (well their sub-contractor) $50 for a 2mtr cable from one downlight to the next and $99 per LED downlight. Now, I can get same model LED downlight for $45, plus $28 installation! That is 1/2 price!

Masterton wanted like $800 to paint 1 feature wall in our formal lounge and 1 bulkhead in our master bedroom. After handover, $200, including the 2 colours of paint!

To top that off, Masterton would not place a cover over an exposed outdoor rainwater tank management system. Spend $$$ to build, but they will not spend $40 to finish the product with visually ecstatic cover.

All exposed and ugly!

Same with a cover for the spa motor access. Spend $2.5k for a spa and the finish, all you get is a piece of wood plank for cover. Wood in a wet area!

Can Masterton get any further of a cheap skate?!

I was not asking for anything extra! You don't buy a brand new car with a door missing, or bonnet made of wood!

I say, "Masterton, get your act together and finish the products you sell".

If you are at the planning or colour selection stage, make sure you get in writing that they will finish with matching covers and boxes over exposed pipes and equipment.
