Air-Con issues

Looks like we are getting over charged for the air-con upgrades by as much as double!

For the same Temperzone 18Kw system, we were quoted $2880 extra, plus $475 per extra zone. Other people building with Masterton have had quotes for $1350 upgrade price for the same Temperzone 18Kw system and only $220 extra per zone!

I will question Masterton on Monday about this, having a copy of the above lower quote prices.

Also, after having read the difference in technology in air-con, digital, stepping and inverter, we might change and opt to get Temperzone 18Kw digital scrolling model, hopefully at the lower price.

Update 17/7/2012
After much chasing and deals, I was able to get Temperzone 18Kw upgrade for $1887 and $235 per extra zone. Totalling around $2500 mark.

Lifestyle Cabling planned

Well, I spent some time today planning the free to air TV, cable TV, phone and data cabling for the house.

Part of the deal, we get Hills Home Hub, which is a central point for all communication cabling. This hub also has the new NBN (National Broadband Network) connection in the near future.

There will be 3 TV+CTV+Data points, extra data point in the office, phone for landline and another for alarm back-to-base dialer.

Alarm sensors and reed switches for security on both levels.

Wireless ADSL hub to service internet to the house, as well as cat5 to all TV points and office.

Total upgrade bill, around $1500.

Air-Con Selection

Just been to our Air-con appointment at Bella Vista.

As anyone would have guessed, the Masterton Air-Con Special deal of $5999 for a $13K RRP system, is no where near what our house requires to heat or cool.

For $5999 you get a 16Kw (21hp) TimeZone brand (never heard of) 2 zone 12 outlet system. We require anywhere from 18Kw to 20Kw to have a more practical 2 zones at the same time operation. With this system we would have been running full all the time and never heat/cool the rooms.

We were recommended an upgrade to DAIKIN 18Kw ($4500) 4 zone system (extra 2 zones from deal with $500 extra per zone). This will allow 2 to 3 zones operational at any one time (totalling to 18Kw), plus having 4 zones will allow to separate each level into 2 groups.

We could upgrade the TimeZone brand to 18Kw for $2500, but opted with Daikin for known brand name.

It is an inverter module, allowing more quieter and cost effective run in the long run.

With the upgrade, we can have kitchen/family room area as well as bedrooms upstairs at the same time, or bedrooms and upstairs lounge etc.

Comes with simple to use 1 controller.

The price, extra $5500. That totals to $11,500. Still a good value I guess.

Tile selection complete

Our tile selection at Tiles Direct today was a very pleasant, easy and professional. The staff were very helpful and offered large variety of tile options and colour themes. She was patient as I looked and made the decisions.

Only few extras, not included in the Masterton Mansion Package, like bigger soap holders, designer artefacts in the showers, sealed drain caps etc. came up just under $1300. This includes the balcony and front door & patio outdoor tiles, as well as the porcelain kitchen splash-back tiles.

Below are some photos, even though the colours do not reflect the actual product due to my phone's photo capability.

All main ground floor living areas, white matt 400x400mm

Front patio and balcony, Alfresco Moka 400x400mm

Kitchen splashback, Ultra Gloss white porcelain 600x600mm

All wet areas, floor- Espresso 300x300mm, walls - Gloss White 300x600 (laid horizontally), designer pattern feature - glass.

We also elected to have chrome edges around the bath tiling corners to give a rich, elegant and glamour look.

Concealed square drain that has same tile cut-out for all wet areas (sample photo)

Tomorrow, Air-Con selection. I hope we do not need too much upgrading, but important one if we need to.

Flooring & Air-Con

Today I received calls from both Accent Carpets & Flooring and Penrith Air Supply for our upstairs timber flooring and our ducted air-con options appointments.

So, for the next 3 days I'll be travelling around from one end of Sydney to the next.

Not sure if we will elect Laminate Timber or Bamboo Timber for the floors. Once I visit the showroom I'll have to make the decision.

As to the air-con, I hope they will offer a reputable manufacturer for the Masterton $5999 special offer. Luckily I have a relative who installs air-con systems and just a phone call away to ask for advice.

CDC Submission Plans

Our CDC/Council submission plans arrived this morning, yey!

For some odd reason, even though it is not in the tender, was never there in any of the previous plans, the Masterton drafts-man has added a provision for LPG gas bottles! What Da!

So, yet another week of delay, by the time they delete it, for me to quickly go over again (as they keep adding and removing things of their own pleasure!) and give them the go ahead.

Unbelievable!
